Miss Dove, later Dame Frances, founded Wycombe Abbey School in 1896. There were then forty girls as boarders, in the magnificent mansion which had been rebuilt by James Wyatt for the first Lord Carrington in 1798. The grounds of 160 acres rise to 500 feet above sea-level, including woods, gardens and a lake. All buildings are within the grounds.
Wycombe Abbey is now an independent boarding school for approximately 540 girls aged 11-18. In addition a few day pupils may be accepted. The school is a charitable trust with a Council of Governors. It is a member of the Girls' Schools Association and Governing Bodies of Girls' Schools Association.
