West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dynamic, highly-motivated individual to the role of Band 8a Lead Nurse for our Tri-borough Community Perinatal Mental Health Services.  This new post in the service is full-time and will be working across the London boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham.  The successful candidate must be a registered mental health nurse and will need to demonstrate excellent clinical skills and have detailed knowledge and relevant experience to enable them to provide clinical and professional leadership to the nursing workforce in the service, as well as lead on the interface with acute/crisis and in-patient care pathways to ensure the dynamic patient centred services with a particular focus on high standards of safe, quality nursing care.

These are innovative and award winning services, with the Perinatal Service having achieved RCPsych Perinatal Quality Network accreditation in 2022.  So far in 2024 the service has also won a NHS Communicate award, an Our Health Heroes award and most recently a Positive Practice in Mental Health award, all linked to the progressive equality, diversity and inclusion work that has been co-produced with our Experts-by-Experience.  The service has a well-established Experts by Experience Group and a strong ethos of co-production.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

As a member of the Perinatal senior management team, the successful candidate will:

·     Provide senior nurse leadership to the nursing staff of the PMHS and provide motivation and vision in the on-going development and implementation of high quality, responsive and accessible nursing care pathways for women and birthing people, their babies and families/supporters accessing PMHS, ensuring these meet the diverse needs of the local communities served

·     Be an expert clinical resource to Perinatal services and the wider professional community, holding a small caseload of highly complex cases.

·     Lead the interface between acute/crisis and in-patient (including MBU) and community services to facilitate appropriate alternatives to admission and the safe discharge of patients from in-patient services

·     To continue the development of a skilled nursing workforce, through a positive learning environment and embedded clinical competencies.

·     Facilitate the effective management and utilisation of nursing workforce and delegated responsibility for associated financial resources.  This will include innovation in further role development and succession planning to sustain the workforce.

·     Undertake investigations for clinical complaints and serious incidents (using the PSIRF) and enable associated learning and quality improvements within the service.

Qualifications

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with NMC (A)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the NMC, including recent specialist training in perinatal and/or infant mental health
  • Trained in an NMC-approved mentorship course to facilitate the supervision/sign off of nursing students

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Additional specialist clinical qualification / training, such as:  Non-medical prescriber  a psychological therapy (e.g. CBT)  intervention designed to promote the developing parent-infant relationship (e.g. Video Interaction Guidance, Circle of Security)
  • Leadership or management training / qualification
  • Quality Improvement qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification

EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience of working as a qualified mental health nurse across a range of settings
  • Substantial recent experience of working at a senior level in a specialist perinatal service (inpatient mother and baby unit and /or a community perinatal service)
  • Experience of clinical and professional leadership / management of pre-qualified and qualified nurses
  • Experience of designing and delivering teaching, training, clinical and professional supervision to a diverse group of clinicians within a number of clinical settings

  • Previous experience as lead nurse / matron
  • Experience of devising care pathways for nursing interventions
  • Experience of leading evaluation and audit of nursing and/or multi-disciplinary services (
  • Experience of co-production of service developments and innovations

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of national policies relating to Perinatal Services, including current aims and agenda
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and skills in nursing interventions relevant to the perinatal period, including well-developed knowledge of risk and safety agenda

  • In depth knowledge of mental health legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management
