Job overview
We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychological Therapist to join our Tier 4 CAMHS team at the North Wales Adolescent service in Abergele. This role is crucial in supporting the delivery of targeted therapeutic interventions to young people experiencing a range of psychological difficulties and mental health problems.
We are looking for an individual with proven experience and suitable qualifications in delivering therapies like CBT and DBT, particularly to young people, excellent communication skills and the ability to empathise with and support young people through their challenges.
Main duties of the job
As a Psychological Therapist within our team, you will be instrumental in delivering evidence-based therapies to young people accessing tier 4 services. Your primary focus will be to work with young people, assessing their needs, formulating treatment plans, and providing direct therapeutic interventions and support to the wider MDT utilising your specific therapeutic skills.
You will collaborate closely with other team members within the Tier 4 CAMHS framework, contributing to the overall care planning and delivery. You will play a vital role in guiding and training junior staff, helping them develop their skills in delivering psychological interventions. Your contribution will ensure that our team continues to provide high-quality care and stays abreast of the latest therapeutic techniques.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Psychological Therapy qualification and accreditation (eg Diploma/Masters in CBT, DBT, EMDR, and BABCP accreditation) OR Equivalent: e.g. Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society or doctoral level qualification in Counselling Psychology where CBT is one of the therapy modalities passed. Plus, HCPC registration. AND Appropriate health care professional training required for governance. May be nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or psychology. AND Significant experience delivering psychological therapy and interventions to young people.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant additional training in psychological therapies relevant for treating moderate to severe psychological difficulties and mental health conditions within a Tier 4 CAMHS setting such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression (eg EMDR, Compassion-Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Brief Solution Focussed Therapy, MBT).
- Supervision training.
- Post-graduate knowledge of research and evaluation methods.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrated experience of working in physical or mental health services working with people with psychological difficulties and mental health problems
- Excellent knowledge and background of working with young people in a health or social care setting.
- Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets
- Ability to manage own caseload and time
- Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
- Able to write clear reports and letters .
- Experience with routine outcome monitoring
- Experience of teaching and delivering support and training to professionals and families.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working as a psychological therapist with young people or adults who have recently transitioned to adult services
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
- Experience of the application of clinical psychology or psychological therapy in different cultural contexts. Experience of different world cultures.
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Computer literate
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Has received training and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice.
- Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of multidisciplinary colleagues.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an understanding of psychological difficulties and mental health conditions and how clients present within Tier 4 CAMHS.
- Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues that impact on young people’s mental health and their recovery.
- Knowledge of medication used in the management of common mental health problems
- Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.
- Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of how adverse childhood experiences (ACES) can impact on mental and physical health into adulthood
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult-to-treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses and people with additional disabilities).
Training
Essential criteria
- Able to attend supervision training if not already trained, and other psychological therapy training as the post develops
- Good record of Continuing Professional Development and willingness to continue this
