Job overview

At BSMHFT, we are always seeking to improve the way we provide interventions and develop new clinical skills and expertise.  We are looking for OT staff, with experience of working post  qualification in mental health and innovative in their clinical practise, to join our community mental health teams. Applicants will have an interest in improving the way in which OT can be delivered in the community in connection with our MDT teams, third sector organisations, recovery hubs and our new Primary Care Mental health teams.

Applicants will have opportunities to work alongside OT staff in CMHTs across the city, carry a small caseload  and have opportunities to deliver interventions with our apprentice, Technical Instructors, OT and team colleagues.   

You will need to be committed to recovery based personalised care, and excited about opportunities to  work with EBE and community colleagues in creating co produced interventions and groups that meet the demands of  our diverse communities. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and will work collaboratively with service users in a way that reflects our Trust Values by providing committed and high quality care.

OT staff enjoy good relationships with our multi-disciplinary teams and it is important to us that our OT's are flexible, energetic, have a positive attitude and demonstrate an ability to work autonomously when needed.

 

 

Main duties of the job

We offer regular supervision, a peer support group, journal club and opportunities to join special interest groups and access space for reflection and complex case discussion.  Occupational Therapy staff attend a regular OT meeting in addition to local CMHT team meetings to develop good OT networks, share best practice and to consider service improvements both within the Trust and AHP services. We are committed to providing opportunities for career development where these arise, flexible working and resources to support staff mental and physical wellbeing. We have access to coaching, participation in Quality Improvement projects and excellent training resources.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Carrying a small caseload of service users and contributing to MDT planning and care.
  • Developing bespoke intervention packages and groups in conjunction with colleagues, EBE and community providers.
  • Developing clinical skills in delivering psychoeducation and interventions that help support the development of self management and other coping skills.
  • Assessing needs of service users referred to team and constructing personalised plans that meet their recovery needs.
  • Using clinical OT formulation, MOHO and other outcome measures to direct care, 
  • Understanding how an awareness of sensory needs can contribute to care pathways and help support service users in managing sensory issues

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Is registered with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of post graduate education above statutory and mandatory requirements, either leadership or clinical
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate courses in areas of clinical expertise or leadership

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of mental health experience in previous posts with an understanding of the needs of service users and issues affecting families and carers
  • Proficiency and experience in using outcome measures to assist in care planning and to monitor progress
Desirable criteria
  • Candidate is able to describe a detailed understanding of the needs and difficulties affecting service users with mental illness
  • Candidate is able to recognise the importance of personalised care when identifying and setting goals and supporting service user in planning interventions
  • Applicant has taken advantage of development opportunities including additional mentoring or supervision roles, leadership roles, participating in audit, course attendance
