Would you like to join a dedicated team who deliver high quality care to outpatients who need support with communication and or swallowing difficulties?
We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Support Worker to assist the work of our outpatient SLT team at Southmead Hospital and Cossham Hospital.
This is a fixed term post. Days of work are negotiable (Monday to Friday). There may be a possibility of extension after the fixed term period but this cannot be guaranteed at this stage.
You will be a self motivated and compassionate person who has excellent communication skills and enjoys working as part of a team. You do not need to have previous experience of working with Speech and Language Therapists but previous healthcare experience would be an advantage.
Main duties of the job
Duties would include carrying out SLT related activities with patients and family members under the guidance of the SLT, assisting with administrative tasks and producing, providing and maintaining equipment and communication aids.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Participate in patient assessment (under the direction of and after appropriate delegation from the SLT), to deliver high standards of care.
2. Follow individual treatment plans, and report any changes immediately to the SLT.
3. Work effectively as part of a team.
4. Help individuals to maintain swallow and communication function and participate in rehabilitation programmes where appropriate.
5. Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills.
6. Maintain clear concise patient records and documentation adhering to national standards and trust policies and procedures.
7. Ensure equipment is well maintained and take appropriate action if the equipment is faulty.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Apprenticeship in Health Level 3 or equivalent work based experience
- Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or equivalent
- IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills, data collection
Work experience
Essential criteria
- Be able to work as a member of a team
- Experience of time management skills and prioritising work
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a health or social care setting
