Job overview

University Hospitals Sussex is looking for a skilled and dedicated senior leader to join the pharmacy department as Operational Lead Pharmacy Technician. As a key driver of innovation and quality, the post holder will lead a team of dedicated pharmacy technicians and assistants whilst providing excellent patient care and guidance across the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.

The post holder will deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and will be expected to advance operational aspects of medicines optimisation and patient services.

The successful candidate can expect a supported induction period, training and development opportunities, clear leadership and management and an expanding health and well being focus to support a highly engaged workforce.

 

Main duties of the job

Key roles include:

  • Being overarching operational lead for medicines optimisation and dispensary services at RSCH and PRH. 
  • To assist the Deputy Chief Pharmacist in the strategic development and progress of operational pharmacy services.  
  • To develop a cutting-edge strategy for the service taking into consideration the needs of patients and the Trust management, new ways of working, best national practice, outcomes of external audits and legislative guidance. 
  • To contribute to the creation and implementation of career progression pathways including innovative roles for pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants. 
  • The successful post holder will be expected to collaborate closely with other hospitals within the Trust (Worthing, St Richards). 
  • Co-ordinating and be responsible for medicines optimisation and dispensary services training for all staff across RSCH and PRH.

Person specification

Shortlisting

Essential criteria
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification or experience and training NVQ3 plus CPD or experience and training equivalent to MPharm level.
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
  • Significant experience in hospital management at a senior level post qualification.
  • Experience of hospital pharmacy practice as a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician or equivalent.
  • Training experience
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma level Management/Leadership or Equivalent Qualification
  • Educational/practice supervisor for NVQ 2 & 3 assistants and technicians.
  • Nationally accredited for medicines management, i.e. MOPs or AIMMs. Educational/practice
  • Educational/practice supervisor for MM and ACPT.
