An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietitian to join our busy and friendly EPUT Dietetic Team in West Essex. EPUT is an integrated Community and Mental Health Trust and we are looking for an enthusiastic HCPC registered Dietitian for this developmental post to work within our community team. The post is nominally based at Latton Bush Centre, Harlow, but will cover a wider geographic area across West Essex including Epping Forest, Harlow and Saffron Walden.

Main duties of the job

This post presents the opportunity to gain or extend your experience and would be suitable for a newly qualified dietitian or an already practicing Band 5 dietitian. The intention is to support progression to Band 6 once all competencies are met.

Our EPUT NHS staff bank is an entity managed by the trust that hires clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals to take on shifts at our trust hospitals and community settings. Here at EPUT we maintain our own bank of specialist staff to ensure that we are able offer safe and effective care at all times.

All our permanent staff are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank however this does not mean you have to work any additional shifts, but the option is there for you if you wish.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will offer dietetic expertise to service users, carers and other health care professionals in a variety of settings including trust premises and community locations. The team share a varied and interesting caseload of patients in their own homes and nursing/residential homes including patients on home enteral feeding. 

The role will include cover for our community wards at St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping that provide elderly and acute rehabilitation. In addition we are responsible for training provision to EPUT and Care Home staff as well as input to pulmonary, cardiac and long covid rehabilitation groups working with their specialist teams.

We provide a service within West Essex GP Practices as part of our GP Practice Scheme. You will provide dietetic cover to a number of our GP Practices that may include general as well as multidisciplinary diabetes clinics. 

EPUT is very supportive of career development and progression and continuous professional development is high on the agenda – both within and outside the Trust. There may be opportunities to shadow our specialist gastroenterology clinics, mental health dietitian or other AHP teams for example. In addition you could shadow or gain experience with X-PERT, an award winning structured education programme for people with type 2 diabetes. You will also take an active part in the provision of training for dietetic students from the University of Hertfordshire.

The post will support PCNs across West Essex to deliver the West Essex One Health and Care Partnerships Out of Hospital strategy and adopt the principles of population health management to support and improve the health and wellbeing of the West Essex PCN population addressing health inequalities and tackling the underlying causes of ill health. We currently have 2 PCN dietetic roles within our team.
