The post holder will provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level; whilst abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The key areas for the post-holder will include:

·        The candidate will take part in the weekly colorectal MDT amd will be expected to undertake colorectal cancer resections 

·        Provision of clinical leadership in the delivery of a high quality emergency surgical service.

  • Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes, including reviews of manpower requirements.
  • Be involved in research
  • All Consultants will be required to undertake a minimum of one 360 appraisal in a five year period to comply with the Revalidation process.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in the annual job planning review to be eligible for pay progression.
  • Trust has an established formal development programme for newly appointed consultants  including a mentorship approach to settling down as a new consultant.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise
  • Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent
  • Entry on Specialist Register in surgery (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience to CCT standards.
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Expertise in open and laparoscopic surgery
  • Robotic low rectal cancer specialist

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities
  • Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit
  • Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making
