We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Neurodevelopmental Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Practitioner, who has an interest in working with children and adolescents who present with a range of complex mental health difficulties. 

The Lambeth Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is a specialist multi-disciplinary CYP-IAPT Tier 3 mental health team. The post-holder will undertake CAMHS assessments of children and young people up to age 18 with a formulation and diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment.

The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy children and adolescents with complex needs. You will also be working at times with their families. You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people. Close working relationships with members of the team and partnership agencies e.g. Social Services, Education and others is essential.

You must demonstrate an interest in multi-agency and multi-disciplinary work and be familiar with evidence-based practice. There are excellent opportunities for CPD, in service teaching and supervision within the team and the trust.

Applicants must be able to work independently and have good clinical/therapeutic and case management skills. Lambeth is an inner city, ethnically diverse community. Applicants will need a good understanding of diversity issues.

All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , General Social care council (GSCC), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP) or The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

Relevant professional training will include: First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV with related CAMHS experience or:

First level qualification in Occupational therapy, Clinical or Counselling Psychology, Social work, or equivalent with related CAMHS experience.

Qualification as a Systemic Psychotherapist (Family Therapist) with relevant CAMHS experience.

First level qualification in art, play, drama or music therapy (leading to a registered qualification with one of the above statutory bodies) with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs.

A good working knowledge of the following: Mental health disorders in children and adolescents.

Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the general evidence base for treatment in child and adolescent mental health.

Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting: The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Experience and ability to function as a practitioner in child and adolescent mental health

Experience of working as a case manager in child and adolescent mental health sector

Evidence of good practice in child and adolescent mental health assessments, assessments of behaviour and performance, family functioning

Ability to take on new concepts/forward thinking.

Good written and verbal presentation skills. Basic IT and data entry skills.

Proven ability to be "reflective" in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection.

Experience

  • Evidence of providing interventions in group, individual and family work, multidisciplinary work with young people, or able to demonstrate clear transferable skills with to this age group.
  • Sufficient post-graduation experience in working within a mental health setting.
  • Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems
  • Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in assessing needs, planning and implementing care
  • Taking responsibility for care delivery in a specific area and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment
