Newham  University Hospital is part Barts Health NHS Trust which  is the largest Trusts in England. The hospital is located in an area with very good transport links  (DLR, Elizabeth Line ,District Line ,buses)and  for those who like cycling the hospital can be easily  reached through  Greenway Footpath (cycleway) 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an inspirational, passionate and enthusiastic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Nurse Specialist to join our endoscopy team and to be part  of our  IBD service.

The post requires vision, innovation and the ability to work across professional boundaries, a real desire to provide the highest standards of patient care. This is a full time, 1 year fix term post with possible extension or to become  a permanent post This is a Monday -Friday, 9-5pm  service

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with advanced clinical skills and will be able to work autonomously and as a key member of the IBD MDT to provide support and expertise to IBD patients and their families/carers.

The post holder will work closely with Consultant Gastroenterologists and other IBD MDT members. The role involves providing, assessing and initiating treatment plans,  providing the IBD nurse led patient telephone helpline service as well as educating and supporting IBD patients and their families to understand and manage their condition.

 

Main duties of the job

The IBD CNS will provide advice, recommendations, and comprehensive clinical skills relevant to patient's investigation and treatment for IBD supported by Gastro Consultants

The post holder will be expected to take an active role in the development of the IBD service, including  virtual  and face to face biologic clinics,monitoring and assessment of IBD patients on biologic therapies and in the development and review of guidelines, protocols and patient pathways.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the education and training of other healthcare professional where needed

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years F/T Post Registration experience, including 3 years recent experience in a GI/Endoscopy setting
  • Experience as a Band 5/6 in IBD speciality Management experience
  • Experience / enthusiasm to participate in research / audit
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading on service development projects
  • Experience in providing multi professional education

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • UK Registered nurse
  • Relevant Nursing Degree or equivalent experience
  • Commitment to relevant careerdevelopment opportunities
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Advanced Communication Skills training (or commitment to taking)
  • High level of IBD and its knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • Enthusiasm to present at conferences / write for publication
