Clinical Scientist (Visual Electrophysiology)

We are looking to appoint an experienced lead clinical scientist to our visual electrophysiology service, which supports ophthalmology services in the North West). The service is headed by a professorial consultant ophthalmologist.   

The successful applicant will work closely with the head of service,  personally perform and report visual electro-diagnostic patient assessments, and lead / manage a small team of clinical scientists delivering services at new Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

St Paul's Eye Unit is the major ophthalmology provider in Cheshire and Mersey with 370 staff members including  44 consultants delivering the widest possible range of specialist services.  The unit is also proactively engaged in NHS, academic and commercial research.   

Our electrophysiology department provides assessment and reporting to support ophthalmologists within the Trust and elsewhere in the region informing diagnosis and management of patient complex conditions.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

  • HCPC registration as Clinical Scientist in same specialisation
  • Member of ISCEV/BriSCEV

  • Corporate member of IPEM
  • Chartered status (Scientist, Engineer) in appropriate professional body
  • PhD

Experience

  • Used to working with patients – including children

Knowledge

  • Advanced theoretical & practical knowledge of electro-physiology of vision. Minimum of 4 years qualified experience in subject
  • Knowledge of regulatory framework relating to medical electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of computer office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc)

  • Advanced expertise in electronics, medical instrumentation, mathematics, statistics
  • Advanced knowledge in physiology and pathology relevant to the post
