To provide a comprehensive service to the Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists and speciality teams, with the minimum of supervision. This role is to support teams in achieving the Faster Diagnosis Cancer Targets by providing secretarial service including audio typing of clinical letters. You would organise your own workload and co-ordinate activities with the CNS team and other admin staff within the Cancer Hub on both the Aintree and Royal Hospital sites to ensure that an efficient service is provided. It is essential that you show initiative commensurate with the role and it is vital that confidentiality should be maintained at all times. Cross cover working across Royal and Aintree hospital sites will be required of this post holder.
This would be an ideal secondment for someone wanting to develop their knowledge and skills . This is a fixed term for one year.

To provide a comprehensive service to Clinical Nurse Specialists and the cancer hub teams in the Urology Directorate across both the Aintree and Royal sites.
Provide secretarial skills to team including audio typing of clinical letters.
Help to track patients referred into Urology with suspected cancer.
Ensure patients are booked in for appropriate diagnostic appointments and that all information is collected and input into the relevant Excel spreadsheets and computer systems .
Work as a team member in the LUFT Urology Cancer Hub with a variety of clinical and administrative staff.

To provide a comprehensive service to Clinical Nurse Specialists and the cancer hub teams. Keep diary up to date, arrange appointments. Operate an effective bring forward system and filing system. To manage and maintain Cancer pathways including tertiary referrals to external trusts, and ensure these are accurately recorded on Somerset Cancer Registry and IPM system. Keep track of referrals to ensure patient is reviewed promptly. Check that follow up appointments are arranged in conjunction with national cancer targets.. Work with the cancer hub teams to maintain diagnostic spreadsheets and appointment calenders for patients referred into the trust for suspected urological cancer. Cancel and add patients to the waiting list, as appropriate, ensuring lists are updated, and patients contacted. Liaise with medical secretaries and Consultants regarding patients being admitted for surgery. Type dictation from audio transcription of clinical correspondence and documentation. Check against clinical letters to ensure appropriate follow up arrangements/investigations are in place. If not bring to the Consultant /Teams attention. Assist with data collection and compiling updates of patient on Somerset Cancer Registry. Helping to ensure this is done with the optimum deadlines set by the Trust. Work from initiative using own judgement, acquired knowledge and tact to deal with queries and resolve situations or refer to appropriate person. Deal with enquiries either on the telephone of face to face from patients, consultants, junior doctors and colleagues in an appropriate manner. Ensure all correspondence relating to patient care is acted upon in a timely manner. Accurate check of patient demographics using the Patient Administration System (PAS), including registration screen, checking patient details are correct, and tracking of case-notes. Assist with audit/research data collection as required. Obtain information as requested by line manager Be able to work as part of a team, promote effective flows in the department to cover leave to ensure office runs smoothly. Train new and junior members of the team within own work area as required by line manager. Attend appropriate training and education sessions at the request of manager. General office duties, including incoming and outgoing post, e-mail, photocopying etc. Participate in housekeeping of office environment. Work with managers to review working practices, ways of working and find solutions to problems. Record and input data onto databases and systems as appropriate. - RSA/OCR Typing/Word processing Level 3 or equivalent
- RSA/OCR Audio typing Skills Level 3
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Secretarial Qualification or equivalent experience
