We are looking for Cleaning and Catering Operatives to join our team at White Cross Court.

York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) are looking for an approachable and flexible Cleaning  and  Catering Operative to join our team at White Cross Court in York.  Experience is not necessary as full training will be given, but a willingness to learn and develop your skills is essential.

The working shift patterns are:

Monday to Friday  14:00 - 20:30

Saturday and Sunday 14:30 - 20:00 

 

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role are maintaining levels of cleanliness throughout a designated area and provide a catering service on the wards.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to;

  • Ensuring that the ward/area you are assigned to is cleaned in accordance with the work schedule for that area. This will include lifting items and operating cleaning machinery, some of which is industrial standard
  • Undertaking specialist cleaning as required under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor and/or Nurse in Charge and/or Infection Prevention Dept
  • Assisting with the distribution of meals to wards
  • Assisting plating up of meals, ensuring the dietary requirements of patients are met
  • Making and distributing hot drinks and cleaning and refilling water jugs

You will work without immediate supervision so must be able to prioritise and use your own initiative. Tasks may need to be completed under time and other pressures but you will maintain standards and pride in your work.

We are looking for people who are able to read, write and converse in English. You will also have a basic understanding of/are willing to complete appropriate qualifications and training in:

  • knowledge of cleaning procedures,
  • COSSH procedures
  • infection prevention and control
  • Food Hygiene Level 2
  • Relevant water systems training
  • Use of equipment such as regeneration ovens, dishwashers and floor machinery

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Basic understanding or willing to complete qualifications and training
  • Good basic education - reading and writing plus basic numeric skills.
  • Customer Service Training (or to be completed within 6 month of start date)
Desirable criteria
  • BICSc Qualification/NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning/Catering or equivalent
  • Training in industrial cleaning equipment
