Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the MSK Pain Clinic and Therapy Services team based in MSK Outpatients at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The role involves skilled assessments and management of patients using a range of psychologically informed occupational therapy and pain management strategies. The pain management occupational therapist will collaborate with patients to improve participation in valued activity, support energy conservation practices, teach relaxation strategies, provide advice and support with work or education, and coach patients to self-manage their well-being.  This role also involves the delivery of a group Pain Management Programme.

Excellent team working skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential. The pain management occupational therapist should have strong communication skills, including skills and attributes related to empathy, validation, active listening, group dynamics and rapport building.

Regular supervision and support from the clinical specialists will be provided as well as group supervision and multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss complex clinical issues.

We also offer excellent in-service training programs to support staff to continue with developing clinical and leadership skills, including developing and delivering education, supervision, mentorship, and service developments. There is also the opportunity to get involved in service improvement and audit.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Specialist post-registration training programmes

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience sufficient to acquire core competencies in Occupational Therapy practice for medical, surgical and neurological conditions and the knowledge and skill to manage a complex specialist caseload in pain management
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical Governance or Health & Safety, link worker
  • Member of special Interest Group
  • Fieldwork educators Course
  • Clinical Effectiveness course/Project

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuous personal & professional development
  • Good post-registration theoretical and practical knowledge of therapy practice in chosen field.
Desirable criteria
