We are looking for Specialist Physiotherapist to work in our innovative and rapidly expanding Cancer Prehabilitation and Rehabilitation service.

The successful candidate will join the clinical team of the Active Together service in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, delivering multimodal prehabilitation and rehabilitation to patients receiving cancer treatment. They will support to team in expanding the service to include additional tumour groups, and to continue to develop and improve the existing service.

  • To assess, plan and deliver physiotherapy and physical activity Prehabilitation and Rehabilitation programmes to patients undergoing a range of oncology treatment pathways.
  • To promote healthy living in patients and support behaviour change.
  • To support, supervise and train assistants, students, less experienced physiotherapists and other Active Together team members within the service.
  • To deputise for the B7 Clinical Lead when necessary.
  • Adopt a personalised care approach to management of patients, including an understanding of behaviour change approaches and “what matters to you”
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the service against Key Performance Indicators for feedback to Yorkshire Cancer Research.
  • Place the need to address health inequalities through Active Together as a priority in patient care and service development.
  • Use standardised screening tools to identify dietetic and psychological needs in patients and arrange appropriate onward care

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of  24 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

This roles sits within the Active Together Sheffield service.

Active Together is a prehabilitation and rehabilitation service supporting people following a cancer diagnosis with physical activity, nutrition, and wellbeing guidance. The service has been designed by Sheffield Hallam University who work in close collaboration with NHS teams to support the delivery and evaluation of the service.

The Active Together service launched in Sheffield in 2022 and this year will expand to new sites across South Yorkshire in Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster. Active Together South Yorkshire will provide equitable, multi-modal and personalised prehabilitation and rehabilitation support that meets the needs of patients across the region and generates evidence for a commissioned service. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and deliver prehabilitation and rehabilitation pathways and help thousands of patients across South Yorkshire.

Active Together is funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, Yorkshire's independent cancer charity, working so more people can live longer, healthier lives, free from cancer.

The successful candidate will work for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, one of the UK's biggest providers of integrated hospital and community-based healthcare

  • Current HCPC registration
  • Demonstrate commitment to Continuous Professional Development via personal development plans/file
  • Training from Higher Education Institution for graduate physiotherapy student supervision
  • Trained in Basic Life Support

  • Evidence of relevant post graduate development in rehabilitation, or oncology within the NHS.

Experience

  • Experience of supervising, managing and developing more junior staff through PDR

  • Demonstrates evidence of leadership experience
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to manage a demanding workload and priorities effectively, for yourself and supervised staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team, delivering multi-modal prehabilitation and rehabilitation
  • Experience of leading in-service training and the ability to pass on knowledge in a formal and informal setting.
