Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Swansea Bay University Health Board, Estates Department for a highly motivated individual to fulfil an Estates Mechanical Craftsperson - Shift Engineering role.

The post will be based at Morriston Hospital and will support all other Health Board premises within the Morriston Estates Unit.

The role demands that the individual has an extensive knowledge of engineering systems (multi discipline) and building services preferably within the Health Care Sector.

The individuals should have a proven track record of fault finding, carrying out pre-planned maintenance  in both an electrical and mechanical setting. Fully understanding the legal implications surrounding statutory compliance and engineering governance.

 

Main duties of the job

To provide a safe, secure and pleasant environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Provide multi-skilled engineering expertise across various electrical and mechanical equipment and fabric

Ensure maintenance tasks are fulfilled to appropriate levels of quality in a compliant manner recording actions through helpdesk software via tablets

Maintenance and repair on a range of Industrial, Commercial, Domestic, and Plant equipment.

Typical areas of work include the following:

Fire alarm systems

Air conditioning equipment and controls, including theatre  AHU

Heating controls, boiler controls and associated equipment

Lift release

Portable equipment

Gas fired commercial and steam heated equipment

Boiler house Industrial Steam Boilers – gas and oil fired combustion equipment

Medical vacuum and compressed air plant

Industrial air plant and pneumatic controls

Domestic hot water systems

Steam and condense pipework and associated valves, steam traps, fittings etc

Building Management Systems – BMS

Pumping Stations

Human Waste Macerator Machines (direct contact)

Heating and Hot Water controls, boiler controls and associated equipment

Heating pipework and systems, including steam to low pressure hot water heat exchangers

Pressurised systems

Essential criteria
  • Completed an accredited Mechanical/Electrical apprenticeship training course to a minimum level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent plus relevant training or equivalent experience, plus additional training and developed skills, e.g. air conditioning

  • NVQ or City & Guilds
