An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our busy and dynamic physiology team at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Applicants must hold BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) / BSc Healthcare Science (Cardiac Science) or equivalent with relevant experience and be working towards British Society of Echocardiography Accreditation.  RCCP /AHCS or equivalent is required.

This is a Trust wide post therefore the post holder will be required to work occasionally across both of our sites (Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital), although the base will be Freeman Hospital.

Post holders at this band are also expected to be part of our on-call primary PCI rota and should have some experience working within a Cath Lab setting.

This post would suit an individual looking to enhance their knowledge and develop specialist Echocardiography skills. Our internationally renowned Cardiothoracic Directorate provides secondary and tertiary Cardiac and transplantation services to the North of England and beyond. The successful applicants will therefore be working at the cutting edge of technology within this setting.  Our Echo Department is BSE accredited and has a strong emphasis on individual professional development through participation in weekly MDT meetings reviewing interesting and challenging cases

  • Participate in the delivery of a specialist clinical service and deliver a high standard of care to all patients
  • Participate in the on-call rota, providing a 24 hour emergency service for cardiac catheterisation labs  for adult and paediatric patients
  • Rotate through sections of Cardiac Services department to build and maintain a body of specialist knowledge and apply this to practice
  • Continue theoretical and practical training via experiential learning and designated advanced course attendances in order to further develop a specialist area of practice
  • Contribute to the delivery of training within the department.

Qualifications & Education

  • BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or equivalent.
  • Post graduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in either echocardiography or cardiac rhythm management (e.g., British Society of Echocardiography adult accreditation or Heart Rhythm UK accreditation) or working towards full completion.
  • RCCP (Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists) voluntary registration or equivalent i.e., HCPC or AHCS
  • Immediate Life Support certification

  • Advanced Life Support Resuscitation Certificate

Knowledge & Experience

  • Post-qualification experience as a Cardiac Physiologist with evidence of continuing professional development and demonstrable competency in: o Ability to interpret ECG data and write a report of findings on ambulatory ECG recording. o Ability to set up and use hemodynamic recording and monitoring equipment in cardiac catheterization laboratory, including IABP set up and operation. o Ability to provide technical expertise at pacemaker implant and undertake pacemaker follow up or ability to perform echocardiograms with assisted reporting. o Ability to supervise exercise stress testing
  • Experience of teaching, training and / or mentorship
  • Evidence of participation in practice development and CPD
  • Evidence of involvement in training junior staff
