We are looking for dynamic and motivated qualified professionals to work within the Surgeons Assistant team trust wide to provide safe and efficient care to our patients within the specialist area of General Surgery.
This post will be suitable for an experienced registered nurse / ODP who has demonstrated a high level of clinical achievement and clinical excellence wishing to expand their sphere of skills, responsibilities and influence in specialist area.
Recent knowledge and experience is essential in specialist area gained through formal qualification or experience.
You will be expected to have in-depth knowledge of theatre standards and protocols and to adhere to them on a daily basis.
Desirable qualifications for this role would be IMER training although training in this area will be offered as part of the training.
The completion of NAASP course part 1 and 2 is essential to this role.
This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

Delivering excellent standards of care and providing patient support throughout the peri-operative phase, advocating on behalf of the dependent patient.
We are looking for one trainee surgical assistant to be based at Hexham general hospital, to provide support to the General Surgery service. The successful candidate will be available to work trust wide when required at Wansbeck, North Tyneside and Northumbria Specialist Emergency Hospital.
To provide high quality care alongside theatre teams ensuring safe patient positioning , maintain skin integrity of patients , safe manipulation of surgical instruments and to deliver high standards of surgical assistant support when required.
To ensure safe and high quality preparation and monitoring of the environment and maintenance of equipment including operating tables and specialist aids.
To report incidents and escalate causes for concern through the appropriate processes.
Working with, and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Supervising junior colleagues, unregistered staff and students.

To provide expert assistance and support to the Consultant Surgeons, Junior medical staff, theatre staff and patients.
liaise with medical staff and members of the MDT in order to achieve optimum levels of care for patients.
Act as 1st and 2nd assistant to consultant surgeon during complex and intricate surgical procedures.
Ability to demonstrate expert hand and eye coordination during a range of complex surgical techniques where accuracy is extremely important.
Expert operational and theoretical knowledge of complex surgical equipment and devices.
Demonstrate excellent time management skills to ensure specialist skills' and knowledge are made available to maximum utilisation.
Participate in the planned programme of patient care and where appropriate teach and coordinate other members of the team who are also responsible for specific aspects of the patients care.
Contribute to change management process in order to bring positive change in practice and improvements in service delivery.
Be responsible for all trust policies and guidelines are implemented by all team members.
Develops external networks with peers to share good practice.
Informs line manager of any complaints, incidents that occur in their area of practice in accordance with trust policy. Takes responsibility to identify areas of potential risk and take appropriate action to minimise the risk and report regarding the effective management of clinical risks.
Plan and identify the utilisation of appropriate ongoing training sessions for junior staff and foster a culture of life long learning and continuous professional development.
Act as a role model to demonstrate highest professional standards and is responsible for standards of documentation and relevant record keeping.

- Evidence of ongoing practice development
- Registered Mentor. Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
