Job overview

We are seeking a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist to work within the specialist Co-occurring Mental Health Alcohol and Drugs (COMHAD) team within the Forward Leeds partnership.  The post holder would be based in Leeds and expected to work across the three main hubs where care is delivered. There is a part-time clinical lead and consultant addiction psychiatrist, a specialty doctor, and junior doctors on rotation including Higher, Core and Foundation trainees.

Forward Leeds is a consortium arrangement of four organisations, of which LYPFT form one part. The other organisations are BARCA, St Anne's, and Humankind. Humankind is the 'lead provider' and data controller. They have the contractual relationship with the commissioner and agree a series of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the LYPFT team. The service is provided across 3 sites at Tower Court Armley, Kirkgate and Irford House and the role requires work across all thee sites.

This is a 5 PA post plus a 1% category B availability for out of hours on-call duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role of the specialist team within Forward Leeds is to provide assessment, treatment, and aftercare for people who misuse alcohol and other drugs and who also have complex needs. It provides the following specialist functions: Dual Diagnosis (Co-Occurring Mental Health Alcohol and Drugs or COMHAD), Pregnancy and Parenting, Specialist Psychosocial Interventions, Hospital In-Reach to Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust, a primary care team of non-medical prescribers for alcohol dependence, and a Street Therapeutic Outreach Team.

The primary roles of the post-holder will be to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients within the service. The post-holder will form an integral part of the MDT and support formulation and decision making regarding appropriate treatment. There will be an expectation that the post-holder contributes to the clinical management of the service and shares supervision duties for doctors in training with the clinical lead.

  • MBChB or equivalent; full registration with the GMC; WAA CCT and endorsement or experience at senior level of addiction psychiatry; AC approval
