Voluntary Role

Job overview

Are you someone who thrives in high-pressure environments? Do you possess a compassionate spirit and a desire to make a positive impact on people's lives during their most vulnerable moments? If so, we have an incredible opportunity for you to join our team as an Emergency Department Volunteer.

Your Mission:

As an Emergency Department Volunteer, you'll be on the front lines of patient care, providing crucial support to both patients and staff alike. Your role is multifaceted, encompassing everything from offering comfort to those in distress to assisting with practical tasks that keep the department running smoothly.

Please Note - If you have made an application on a different volunteer vacancy, this will be considered across all voluntary roles at the Trust. You will not need to make another application.

Main duties of the job

As an Emergency Department Volunteer, you'll be at the heart of our patient care efforts, ensuring that every individual who walks through our doors feels supported and reassured during their time of need. Your role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, all geared towards creating a welcoming and efficient environment. You'll engage with patients, offering them a compassionate ear and a comforting presence, particularly when they're feeling anxious or distressed.

Additionally, you will ensure that patients remain hydrated and nourished by serving beverages and assisting during meal times. Behind the scenes, you'll play a crucial role in operational support by restocking shelves and trolleys with vital supplies, guaranteeing that our department is always ready to handle emergencies.

Your keen observation skills will also come into play as you keep a vigilant eye out for any issues or concerns within the department, promptly reporting them to our nursing team. Most importantly, you'll uphold the highest standards of patient confidentiality, respecting their privacy and rights at all times. Through your dedication and compassion, you'll make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Working for our organisation

We have 200 fantastic volunteers working hard to support the services that we deliver to our patients.  As a Trust, we help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Volunteering with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done.  You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means our volunteers are pivotal and something really to be proud of.
