Job overview

We are seeking a highly self-motivated and enthusiastic Patient Engagement and Involvement Officer to join the Experience of Care team here at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. As the Engagement and Involvement officer, you will be instrumental in actively engaging with patients on our waiting lists and the local community as part of our ‘Waiting well’ project. Focussing on involving those patients who are seldom heard to establish their needs to support them whilst they are waiting.  

You will be joining an innovative, caring and hard-working team at the forefront of patient experience. The role will be a mix of hospital and home-based working, as well as attending community events and meetings in and around Southampton and across Hampshire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


To work alongside the Experience of Care team in ensuring patient feedback is accessible, utilised and used to drive meaningful change.

To actively engage with and develop relationships with patients, community teams, charities and partner organisations such as Healthwatch and other NHS trusts. 

 Organise and co-ordinate engagement events and workshops requiring effective and detailed planning and organisation.

 Assisting with the planning, development, and delivery of patient involvement activities including surveys. 

Using a variety of methods to engage with members of the public and local community to obtain feedback about services in support of engagement projects which will inform policy review and organisational change.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge & experience
  • Computer literate in word, excel, PowerPoint, adobe
Desirable criteria
  • Project management qualification

Previous or relevant experience necessary
