Job overview

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and motivated research nurse (adult or paediatric) or Midwife with significant research experience, who takes pride and ownership in delivering high-quality patient-centred care, to lead the delivery of our education and clinical skills programmes for the staff within Southampton Research. 
If you are passionate about education and preparing research staff to give patients the opportunity to participate in high-quality ethical clinical research, with excellent research knowledge, clinical skills and experience, this could be an exciting opportunity for you.


Working in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility and alongside the other teams within Southampton Research you will provide expert supervision, teaching and assessment of competence to support research nurses, AHPs and Clinical Trial Assistants working on complex multi-centre studies within a range of specialities in addition to early phase and experimental medicine.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities


Manage and lead education and clinical skills improvement for the staff within the teams of Southampton Research in collaboration with Senior Research Nurse Leaders with a particular focus on  CRF staff. 

Work alongside all levels of staff providing expert supervision, teaching and assessment of competence.

Support staff in their professional and personal development
Provide professional nursing leadership and support at the departmental level in CRF in collaboration with Matrons to enhance nursing practice and strategy

Experience and skills


We are looking for an experienced practitioner with Clinical research experience and experience in educating and developing staff.  The successful applicant should be able to provide evidence of:

The ability to present and teach to both large and small audiences
Excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication and attention to detail.
Leadership skills - evidence of ability to help /support junior staff.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or AHP on relevant part of the professional register (NMC HCPC)
  • Evidence of on-going professional development
  • Experience of teaching and mentorship
  • Educated to Post Graduate Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Recognised qualification in teaching and mentorship
  • Extensive experience of research nursing
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification in relevant speciality

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of working with patients at a senior level.
  • Clinical Research experience.
  • Relevant speciality experience.
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute health care
  • Recent management experience
  • Recent NHS experience or equivalent Knowledge of Research Governance Framework (RGF), International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice
  • Experience of educating and developing staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Logical and consistent work and career pattern.
  • Report writing
  • Undertaking clinical audit

Aptitudes and skills required

  • Leadership skills- evidence of ability to help/support junior staff
