Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Data Lead to provide a full data management service to the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department as part of the Cardiac Sciences Clinical Data Team. 

The post will be of interest to those who are pursuing a career in clinical data auditing and hospital management, and would like to gain more experience with a wide variety of challenges.

We are looking for someone with good experience of managing the processes of data collection, data analysis and data submission, as well as data cleansing. The post holder will require strong IT skills, have good experience of operational management and be enthusiastic and willing to learn. You will need to have excellent communication skills and will be required to liaise with senior clinicians and managers, both within the Trust and at external organizations. Time management skills are also essential as you will need to balance the demands of a busy workload.

Main duties of the job

·         To be the Cardiothoracic Surgery lead for clinical information systems, including management of staff where relevant, resources, budget and departmental workload.

·         To manage key clinical information systems for the purposes of clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, clinical governance, performance management and patient discharge / reporting functions.

·         To ensure that key Trust requirements for data completion / submission relating to cardiac national audit projects outlined as part of NHS Healthcare Standards are met.

·         To develop and maintain a framework for information audit within Cardiothoracic Surgery, enhancing the quality of patient care and facilitating improved outcomes and effectiveness.  This will include organising the regular (monthly) Morbidity & Mortality multidisciplinary team meetings.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent plus specialist knowledge through post graduate diploma or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Committed to continuous management/professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant clinical background or demonstrable understanding of the clinical arena
  • MSc level qualification in an information management related field

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing and administering projects
  • Extensive experience of designing and formatting complex spread sheets and databases
  • Experience in a role involving analysis, investigation and resolution of complex statistical/analytical queries.
  • Extensive understanding of NHS clinical datasets, especially STCS.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to manage staff.
  • High level of analytical skills with the ability to present highly complex information
  • Good understanding of topical NHS-wide issues
  • Up to date knowledge of information/clinical governance issues.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of National tariff and NHS Costing systems
