An exciting opportunity has arisen within the ENT Rhinology Department at Imperial. The successful applicant will be expected to have excellent experience within general and subspecialty Rhinologist Surgery and expected to work flexibly and to bring new skills to the department.

The post holder will work as part of the Consultant team providing a high quality ENT service delivering excellent patient care including the provision of out-patient, emergency, day-case and inpatient services independently.

In addition to routine ENT surgery, all consultants have subspecialist skills and patients are referred from all over the World. Imperial is the Supra-Regional Skull Base Surgery Centre, Regional Rhinology & Facial plastics centre, Regional Head and Neck Cancer Centre, Regional Thyroid Cancer Centre and the National Centre for Adult Airway Reconstruction.  

ENT is currently based on 2 sites, Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital and paediatric outpatients and surgery is provided at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, with further specialist clinics at The Royal Brompton. On call cover is provided for all 5 hospitals (including Hammersmith Hospital, and OOH at West Middlesex Hospital). The department is staffed by An MDT with a mix of clinical experience and expertise. There are 16 ENT surgeons alongside a dedicated team of administrative and clerical staff

Key Areas of Responsibility:

·         To enhance and complement the skill mix provided by the ENT Service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

·         Working with the multi-disciplinary team to advance the Rhinology Service by developing new pathways and models of care.

·         To provide high quality care to all ENT patients

·         To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

·         To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities.

·         To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

·         To take an active role in managing patient pathways in their respective area.

·         To undertake administrative duties associated with their patients in line with departmental guidelines.

·         To support with the training of junior specialist trainees and other junior doctors in the ENT surgery department.

·         To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and Imperial College as required

·         Adhere to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and divisional director, on behalf of the medical Director, this is not designed to be exhaustive.

The post holder and divisional director/ chief of service will review the job plan annually in line with the provisions in schedule 3 of the terms and conditions.  Either may propose amendment of the job plan.

Programmed activities (PA’s)

For a whole-time locum contract: A total of 10 PAs

Clinical Activities: 9 PAs per week (including clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 1 PAs per week (including audit, clinical governance, CPD, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD)

A draft timetable is included in the job description. The anticipated job plan is included but may be subject to changes.

Regular meetings: Attendance at regular department audit, M&M and business meetings are required.

Education/ Qualifications

  • On GMC’s register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
  • Appropriate Royal College Membership
