Main duties of the job

The NIHR Biomedical Research Centre in Respiratory Medicine at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Southampton are pleased to announce a Clinical Research Fellow post in Respiratory Medicine within the sub speciality of ILD ( Interstitial Lung Disease).

This Prestigious post is funded by the Respiratory Biomedical Research Centre to support the unit’s core research programme. The position will be appointed for 1 year in the first instance, with opportunities for extension.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your role will include:
- You will provide clinical research support to respiratory research projects focusing on their own research area.

- You will be responsible for specific study-related medical support within their expertise, and, where appropriate, in consultation with the Study Principal Investigators.

 -When required, providing medical cover for studies in the group and supporting the development of a clinical cohort to support their research.

- Interact and collaborate with Study Teams personnel responsible for creating study protocols and related documents, including Local Research Ethics Committee documentation and R&D submissions.

- Where appropriate take responsibility for overseeing the management of administration of study drugs for designated studies to healthy volunteers/patients according to local standard operating procedures.

- Assisting in the training and development of medical and nursing staff, including planning and provision of seminars and lectures for Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Academic Foundation and Academic Clinical Fellow Training Programmes) clinical research training programmes.

Furthermore, this post will help deliver an exciting programme of respiratory translational research and enable you to pursue a programme of your own research to achieve a higher degree. The post will provide excellent training in translational research in all aspects of the programme, including the submission and maintenance of regulatory documents, the recruitment of subjects, medical cover studies and acquisition of samples from patient volunteers by bronchoscopy. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post.

The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. 
Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Basic Salary – MT03 - £49,909

Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.
Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Experience in the field of Respiratory medicine
