Main duties of the job
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is the 8th largest hospital Trust in the country and a major national centre of teaching and research. You will be part of the existing senior medical team working as part of the Supportive and Palliative Care team at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and the medical team at Mountbatten Hampshire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
A proportion of the available PAs will form part of a rotational post, working between the acute hospital and Mountbatten Hampshire. The details of this post will be agreed with the successful candidate(s) and the existing medical team after recruitment. This post has opportunity for development and the role can be adapted line with the strengths and attributes of the candidate to include:
- Provision of specialist supportive, palliative, and end of life care to inpatients and outpatients at the Trust
- Provision of specialist palliative care to inpatients and community patients at Mountbatten Hampshire (MH) – rotational PAs to be agreed
- Participation in service development and delivery of quality outcomes
- Delivery of education and training to Specialty and GP Registrars in Wessex Deanery
- Opportunity to contribute to UHS Palliative and End of life care education and research agenda
- Opportunity to contribute to Mountbatten Education and Research agenda
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Individuals wishing to apply must be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP or equivalent
- Broad experience based in Palliative Medicine
- Working with multidisciplinary teams
- Delivery of audit and Quality Improvement Projects
Desirable criteria
- Recognised training in Palliative Medicine with postgraduate qualification
- Experience in Palliative Medicine research
- Experience in developing new services
- Experience in medical student teaching
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Experience of working within the independent sector
- CCT in Palliative Medicine or appropriate qualifications and experience to allow entry on to the Specialist Register or within 6 months of entry
