Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian to lead the dietetic management and provision of nutrition support to patients in the area of neurosciences (neurology, neurosurgery, neuro critical care and stroke services). The post-holder will manage a clinical caseload on the neuro critical care in addition to line managing and supporting junior dietitians in your team. The role involves working across both neurosciences and critical care specialties to deliver high quality nutritional care and contribute to service development across these areas. The dietetics team is well embedded and respected as part of the MDT, providing excellent opportunities for collaborative working, training, audit and research. Our department is actively involved in the education of other health care professionals and student dietitians, and as an expert resource on nutrition in neuroscience, you will be expected to participate in this training as well as the supervision and development of junior team members.
We are committed to professional and personal development and you will benefit from many opportunities to develop and enhance the dietetic service whilst being supported in your own career development.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be a good team worker, with the ability to use their own initiative and take a flexible approach to day to day working.

Main duties of the job

To work as a specialist Dietitian within the Trust by providing expert assessment, monitoring and support for highly complex patients requiring nutritional intervention by using evidence based practice and conforming to Best Practice Guidelines.
To take the lead when required in the development and provision of teaching programmes for Health Care Professionals across the Trust and be involved in the provision of nutrition support, in particular the key area of neurosciences (neurology, neurosurgery and neuro critical care).  The post-holder will also support education strategies and initiatives to all Health Care Professionals throughout the Trust to raise the standards of care in the provision of adequate nutrition for hospitalised patients.
To manage a clinical caseload of patients on the neuro critical care in addition to line managing and supporting junior dietitians in the areas of stroke, neurosurgery, neurology and general medicine

Multidisciplinary team working, close liaison between acute and community teams, and highly developed skills in communicating with patients, carers, and other service users is essential.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
