An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior therapeutic radiographer to join the team at Basingstoke Radiotherapy Department, a Satellite centre for the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Across both sites, we havea  large and very friendly team of radiographers (over 60 clinical radiographers and assistants) delivering high-quality radiotherapy treatment to over 2800 cancer patients each year. We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer to join our team to deliver high-quality of care. The role involves the day-to-day care of radiotherapy patients, working in pre-treatment and treatment units, providing safe, state-of-the-art patient-centred care for our patients.

At Basingstoke, we have 1 Elekta Linear Accelerator (with Align RT allowing thermal and surface guided set up and tracking) and 1 planning CT scanner, where the team are involved at every step of the radiotherapy pathway from planning to treatment for breast, prostate and palliative patients. 

Combined, we are the largest radiotherapy centre on the south coast. Southampton comprises of 6 Elekta Linear Accelerators (3 with Align RT allowing thermal and surface guided set up and tracking, and 3 with ExacTrac imaging, Hexapod 6DF couches and FFF), 1 Ortho voltage machine, 2 Planning CT scanners (with 4D capability) and a full brachytherapy service.

We are a CHKS-accredited department delivering highly specialised radiotherapy treatments for a variety of tumour sites. Southampton are also a tertiary referral centre for Neuro-oncology (delivering SRS/T), Haematology (delivering Total Body Irradiation-TBI) and Lung, Bone and nodal SABR centre. The department is also the only centre in the country delivering Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IOERT) for Pancreatic and GI tumours. 

The normal department working hours include 7.5-hour shifts between the hours of 0700-2000 (Monday-Friday). We also provide on-call services for MSCC patients during the weekend.

Job description and responsibilities:

 At University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, we have a large and very friendly team of over 80 radiographers and Advanced Practitioners delivering high-quality radiotherapy treatment to over 3500 cancer patients each year.

 Our department has a commitment to continuing professional development and evidence-based practice through the provision of regular in-house training courses, access to external courses as well as regular supervision sessions, peer-support meetings and staff appraisal.

The post holder will be responsible for radiotherapy pre-treatment and treatment delivery as part of a team within the Basingstoke Satellite Centre. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 To lead the delivery of radiotherapy treatment.

To calculate and record radiotherapy treatments accurately.

To lead in the planning of radiotherapy treatment.

 To be responsible for the well-being and care of patients during their radiotherapy.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

 Enthusiastic individuals with a Degree in Therapeutic Radiography or a Diploma from the College of Radiographers

 The candidate should have a State Registration with the HCPC

 Excellent written and verbal English language skills

 Experience with a wide variety of Radiotherapy techniques & equipment

 Ability to communicate with a wide range of people 

 Ability to lead the team and work as a team member 

 Ability to work under own initiative

 Be able to take instructions/directions and work within the confines of the role

  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Defined area of specialist practice/experience with caseload management.

  • Understanding of wider Radiotherapy agenda e.g. Radiotherapy specialised commissioning and service specifications.
