Job overview

The RSCH Eye Department is committed to research with several ongoing studies and trials in Medical Retina, Uveitis and Glaucoma with frequent publications.  We have a strong audit culture and a Consultant who is the KSS Training Programme Director for Ophthalmology for specialist training.

We cover a large geographic area with the main hub at the Royal Surrey County Hospital but we have satellite clinics at Haslemere, Cranleigh and Badgerswood. We also have a well-established joint on-call service with our local Trust Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Royal Surrey has been rated as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission for being caring, effective and safe and well lead and outstanding for being responsive to people’s needs.  We have a very minimally active therapy training unit for keyhole surgery - only one of the three such training units in the UK.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be required to take an active part in leading and delivering a cutting-edge clinical service in the management of general and anterior segment patients. The post holder will also be expected to participate in the general teaching, management, and on-call duties of the department, as well as in seeing ward referrals and performing patient support activities within the hospital.
