Specialist Biomedical scientist

Band 6

North West London Pathology (NWLP) is an NHS pathology partnership joint venture between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. NWLP is modelled as a shared services organisation jointly owned by the three Trusts. The organisation is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and as the legal entity for NWLP our staff are employed by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

NWLP is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ structure; the majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is centralised at our hub site at Charing Cross Hospital. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed in 24/7 Essential Service Laboratories based on-site within the seven hospital sites in the group.

The partnership has created an innovative and sustainable service that delivers outstanding quality to users and patients alike. This innovative approach allows the service to better manage demand, standardise operations, improve value for money and make use of state-of-the-art technology.

Our values are to be patient-focused, collaborative, expert and caring.

Job overview

We are looking for an ambitious Biomedical Scientist to join our dedicated team within North West London Pathology.

Applications are sought from self-motivated individuals with experience of working in a busy and dynamic haematology and blood transfusion department.

We are looking for substantial post-registration experience, excellent technical, interpersonal and IT skills. Your ability to communicate effectively and work independently or collaboratively will make you a perfect fit for our team.

Main duties of the job

As well as being the busiest of the four London Trauma Centres the St Mary's site hosts; a large cardiology unit, a leading paediatric transplant service and two large maternity services.

You will be instrumental in delivering, maintaining and developing the high-quality services our laboratory provides, maintaining our quality management system, and ensuring our clinical users receive the best care possible.

In addition to routine haematology and haemostasis, the department includes broad and complex morphology, routine, complex, and major trauma transfusion medicine services, and St Mary's hospital is our network hub for special haematology, which includes extensive haemoglobinopathy and enzymopathy testing. In joining the team, you will have the opportunity to develop in all areas.

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to train the next generation of scientists, passing on your knowledge and passion for your discipline. Encouragement is being given for the development of new ideas to improve the service and quality of patient results.

Working for our organisation

Benefits include career development, flexible working, staff wellbeing programmes, staff awards and recognition scheme. We also have available benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.
