B6 Triage Nurse (Fixed Term Contract)

We have developed an exciting opportunity to for a B6 experienced triage nurse to undertake a fixed term role within our Haslemere Minor Injuries Unit (soon to be upgraded to an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), (and Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department for adhoc cover if needed). There are various hours available, and are inviting applications from our internal nurses who would like to develop their nursing career.

 

Successful candidates’ will work alongside our qualified ECP’s to develop and use their skills and expected competencies in the triage, assessment and treatment of patients that present to the Minor Injuries Unit/UTC (and rotations into RS Emergency Department) with a range of minor injuries and illnesses.

 

Post holders will have a dedicated ECP Clinical Mentor to support them in their role and will receive ECP/ENP clinical support throughout their practice.  The successful candidate/s will maintain a practice portfolio to evidence their specialist skills in this area.

JOB PURPOSE

 

The role is a fixed term contract (from July 25 to 01/01/26).  The post holder will work as a clinical nurse alongside qualified ECP’s using their skills to undertake triage, assessment and support in the management and treatment of patients with a range of minor injuries and illnesses.

 

 

Essential Criteria : 

·         NMC registered nurse (Adult / Paed) with 2 years + experience working in the Emergency Department, Manchester Triage Training or equivalent, Mentorship Qualification, cannulation, venepuncture, streaming and IV additives.

Desirable Criteria : 

·         Non-Medical Prescribing, Physical Assessment (L5/6), minor injury / illness courses, plastering, suturing, IRMER/XR, bony assessment.

JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will need to be competent to assess and triage patients presenting into the department alongside the ECP team, be able to initiate and support investigations, diagnosis, treatment, referral and discharge of patients attending the Minor Injuries Unit (UTC) or Emergency Department within the parameters of the B6 Clinical Nurse scope of practice.

The post holder will continually develop their skills and competencies, to provide, triage, assessment, treatment, care and education to patients from all sections of the community from children (above the age of 1) to the elderly, ensuring high quality patient centered care.

All nurses/HCPs will have a dedicated ECP Clinical Mentor to support them through their training and development and to support them throughout their practice

 

 

The successful applicant must be able to commit to an internal rotation shift pattern of days, weekends and public holidays, and would be expected to work all varied ECP shift times.  At MIU/UTC the shifts are 0800-1730 (9hrs).  (ED are 0700-1930, 1000-2230 – this may be required on an adhoc basis to provide essential cover)

  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues in acute NHS setting
  • Evidence of research based practice
