We are looking for a Senior audiologist to join our Adult audiology department at West Hertfordshire. The successful candidate will be motivated, will show initiative and take a forward-thinking approach to achieving goals.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this post involves the provision of a range of routine and advanced diagnostic and rehabilitative.

 Audiology services for adults of all ages including patients with additional needs. In this grade an experienced, qualified technician performs work involving much greater responsibility and autonomy, including activities, which are complex and non-routine.

Supervision of other staff, including technical assistance, can be expected at this level. A senior audiologist is responsible for the running of this department in the absence of the head of service and works with the head of service to ensure that clinical and professional standards are maintained at all times.

This is a full-time role, Monday-Friday, usually worked over 4 days 8-6. Exact working hours to be agreed on successful application.

Manage a caseload of adult patients, providing both aural rehabilitation and diagnostic hearing assessments.

Conduct and interpret a variety of audiological tests, assisting with complex evaluations when necessary.

Collaborate with medical and social care professionals to develop and manage effective patient care plans.

Maintain and calibrate audiological equipment.

Deliver training, seminars, and clinical guidance at a local level.

Stay current with professional development, CPD requirements, and relevant codes of conduct.

Support departmental audits, research, and service improvement initiatives.

Oversee specific administrative duties independently.

The post holder works alongside other members of the Audiology Department reporting to the Audiology Manager.  

The post holder has a supervisory responsibility towards Associate Audiologists, Assistant Audiologists and Student Audiologists.  

Other major working relationships include ENT, Hearing Therapy, Paediatric Audiology, Speech and Language Therapy, other hospital departments/wards, GP surgeries and the satellite clinics, which are connected to the Audiology department.

Education and qualifications

  • BSc in Clinical Audiology or equivalent level of state registration as Clinical Physiologist in Audiology
  • Or professional Body examinations BAA (British Academy of Audiology) Parts 1 and 2.
  • Membership of BAA, BSA (British Society of Audiologists).
  • Post Graduate training.
  • Registration with RCCP/ HCP

Knowledge

  • Competency in all routine diagnostic & rehabilitative Audiological procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with digital signal processing hearing aids and programming and fitting software (e.g. Noah, Genie).
  • Further experience and training in more advanced techniques (e.g. Real Ear Measurements) Current RCCP registration or equivalent.
  • Skills in using an Audiology Patient Management System (e.g. Practice Navigator/Auditbase) accurate use of electronic patient records, departmental networked policies, forms and documents.
  • First class patient handling skills Good personnel handling skills Ability to motivate, train and supervise junior staff.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a high level of professionalism and concentration in a constantly changing working environment, with good ability to adapt and be flexible.

Experience

  • Experience as an Audiologist
  • Performance of all basic Audiological techniques.
  • Fully competent in all routine diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiological procedures
  • Fully competent in knowledge and experience of digital signal processing hearing aids. Including programming and fitting software, e.g. NOAH and Genie.
  • Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, Email, Patient Management Systems.
