Main duties of the job
This post combines duties at a busy university hospital, district general hospital and ISTC and will provide the trainee with experience in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery including
Dento-alveolar surgery, dental and maxillofacial trauma, facial deformity, oral cancer, skin cancer, salivary gland diseases, TMJ disorders, facial deformity / orthognathic surgery, oral mucosal pathology and facial pain.
There is a regular in house protected teaching programme in addition to the mandatory regional teaching programme. The trainee will undertake audits and will have ample opportunities to get involved in projects leading to presentations and publications. There are regular head and neck and facial deformity MDT's and joint clinics, which the trainee will have opportunities to attend.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Summary of Duties:
1. Attending OMFS and Oral Surgery Consultation Clinics
2. Outpatient and inpatient management of maxillofacial elective and emergency patients
3. Performing minor oral surgery under GA/LA
4. Attending and assisting in major cases in theatre
5. Opportunities for audit/ research/ presentations
6. Attendance to formal teaching sessions
Summary of training and educational objectives:
1. Develop a further understanding of the assessment and management of maxillofacial trauma.
2. Develop a further understanding of the assessment and management of patients presenting with facial deformity
3. Develop a further understanding of the assessment and management of patients presenting with head and neck pathology.
4. Develop an understanding of the management of medically compromised patients requiring dental or OMFS treatment.
5. Completion of competencies within all domains of the GPT curriculum
6. Develop skills in soft tissue and skin cancer management
Additional Information
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.
Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular.
Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)
Basic Salary – MT03 £49,909
Travelling expenses will not be paid for attending interview
Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.
Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- MBBS and BDP or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Part 1 MRCS/FRCS/ARCS as per JCHST requirements
- 12 months Basic Surgical Training in posts recognised by the Royal College of Surgeons or experience in surgery in general at SHO grade up to the criteria specified by the FRCS Part B
- Relevant post registration experience
- Evidence of successful completion of an ATLS Course
Desirable criteria
- Experience at SHO level
- Experienced in basic surgical procedures

- Understanding of equality and diversity and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
- Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).

- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

- Ability to produce legible, accurate complete and comprehensible notes
- Information technology skills
