An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Theatre Practitioner to join our CEPOD and Neuro/Angio teams at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. 

Our Neurosurgery Theatres and Angiography Team are looking for a highly enthusiastic and dynamic individual with or without scrub experience in Neuro/Neuro Angio. The successful candidate is expected to have good communication skills to support the team in achieving high standards of patient care within theatres.

We run four Operating Theatres Monday to Friday and support 24-hour Neuro Emergency patient pathways. We cover both adult and paediatric neurosurgery and 24 h stroke services.

Our CEPOD team are looking for a highly enthusiastic and dynamic individual with excellent scrub skill in general surgery theatres along with good communication skills to support the team in achieving high standards of patient care within the CEPOD theatres. 

CEPOD team manages two CEPOD theatres, acute surgery and plastic surgery Lists. Our main CEPOD theatre is very fast paced service which runs 24/7 and covers a wide range of general surgery specialties such as Vascular, Thoracic, HPB, Upper GI, Colorectal, Paediatric, Urology, ENT, MaxFax. We are very dedicated team working in close relationship with the multidisciplinary team and are very proud of the care provided for our patient. Last year we were proud to receive the UHS championship award for the service improvement, acknowledging the advancements made within our service

Your Responsibilities
 
The successful post holder will:
- Provide skilled specialist assistance in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care throughout the Operating Department.
- Participate as an integral member of the team, covering a full range of shifts, including earlies, lates, nights, weekends and ad hoc on calls (if necessary).
- Act as the patient advocate and maintain high standards of patient care, in line with NMC or HCPC code of conduct.
- Be involved in supporting and mentoring students and new staff as appropriate.

What we’re looking for:
- We are looking for qualified theatre practitioners (RN/RODP) with or without theatre experience. The successful candidate will be trained for Neuro Cranial / Spinal and Interventional Radiology cases (if appointed for Neuro Theatres).
- If you possess good communication skills, are patient focused, friendly and a team player we want to hear from you.
- In order to assist you to develop your career, you will be mentored and supported during your employment.
- We are also offering opportunities for clinical and leadership development, through a career development pathway exploring opportunities for specific clinical development in conjunction with access to leadership pathways.  
- We are keen to offer a range of opportunities, to include dual skill development. Your home base skill could be added to through a secondment into another theatre discipline.  We would be opened to discuss career pathways tailored to your individual career focus.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Registered nurse or ODP on relevant part of the register
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Has the ability to assist in carrying out the transfer of a patient through the intraoperative phase of perioperative care, giving concise accurate handover
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the skills required to support learners in practice and to create a positive learning environment.
  • Practices and promotes the use of evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute health service.
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Aptitude for caring for the anaesthetised and/or acutely unwell patient.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners in practice.
  • Relevant resus qualification, ie Immediate Life Support
  • Experience of working within relevant care setting
  • Specialist theatre work-based learning course, or mentorship course, post-qualification.
  • Interest in research to promote good practice
