Specialist Clinical Pharmacist

Band 7

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

Job overview

Do you want to join an award-winning department that puts clinical pharmacists at the forefront of medicines optimisation and patient care?

The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million.  We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.

The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Acute and General Medicine to promote the responsible, safe, and cost-effective prescribing of medicines to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety within acute and general medical wards at the Royal London Hospital.

The post holder will deliver patient focused, quality care and act as a clinical role model within Acute and General Medicine and if required supervises rotational staff working in these areas.

Be a registered non-medical prescriber (or willing to undertake training for this) and to make prescribing decisions, including de-prescribing, and prescribing for patients under their care.

You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy department and student placements.
