Job overview

•    About Us –   We are a supportive and friendly team who work with adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing, in Guildford and Waverley.  We see patients in a variety of settings - their own homes, care homes, via video-calls, in outpatients or on the wards at Milford and Haslemere Community Hospitals.  We work with patients who have progressive conditions such as Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease, as well as Stroke and other neurological conditions. We have regular team meetings and learning/development opportunities.

•    Role Responsibilities/ about the role – This role involves carrying out therapy programmes devised by qualified Speech and Language Therapists, including therapy groups.  Other duties will include supporting the therapists with making communication books/charts, assisting patients with using alternative communication technology, voice banking, running training sessions and completing administrative tasks to support the team. You will be required to develop communication competencies and basic dysphagia (swallowing) competencies.  You will be working closely with patients, families and carers, as well as other healthcare professionals and relevant community groups.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy Team: working in different clinics, wards and home settings across the area, supported by clinicians, implementing SLT programmes and taking on allocated caseloads. There will be a requirement to assist with administrative tasks, make patient appointments, schedule clinic alterations, set up clinics and therapy groups and modify therapy sessions if appropriate/required.

To provide a high standard of SLT clinical care under the guidance and supervision of the SLT therapists, and support the SLT team through clinical-administrative support.

•    Skills/ Person Specification – We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and organisational ability, as well as good knowledge of and ability to use computers.  You should be eager to learn new skills and have the ability to use your initiative. A car driver with a full current driving license is essential. Specific training for the role will be provided as required.   • Good general standard of education up to NVQ level 3 or equivalent including English and Maths
