We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as the Lead Radiographer for the Radiology Department at Watford General Hospital.
The position involves working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with core hours falling between 08:00 and 17:00.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and comfortable working independently, with the confidence to recognise when to seek guidance and collaborate with colleagues.
The successful candidate will have the flexibility to manage the dynamic and occasionally unpredictable operational demands of the workplace, responding effectively to shifting departmental priorities.
Confidence—or a willingness to develop competence—in managing human resources and employee relations matters is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible to the Deputy Radiology Services Manager for the day-to-day operational management of the Department of Clinical Radiology at Watford General Hospital.
They will work closely with all stakeholders to help deliver a high-quality diagnostic service in a safe environment for both staff and patients. This includes responsibilities for efficiency, prioritising work, and making good use of resources.
The post holder will also work closely with the Lead Superintendent Radiographers at Hemel Hempstead General Hospital (HHGH) and St Albans City Hospital (SACH), providing support to staff at HHGH and SACH when those leads are absent, as well as assisting the Band 8a modality and service leads.
They may be required to work across all three sites to meet service needs, so being onsite is essential.

- Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team including Radiographers, Radiology Department Assistants, clerical and administrative staff and other Practitioners.
- Provide support, guidance, and development to staff.
Work closely with the Lead Superintendent Radiographers for HHGH & SACH and provide assistance to staff at HHGH & SACH in their absence. - To be responsible for the management of the radiographic and support staff employed in the Radiology department at Watford General Hospital.
- To support the team and modality leads in the recruitment and selection of staff for the Imaging Service producing relevant documentation and chairing interview panels.
- To work closely with the DRSM to maintain service provision.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Radiology department across the Trust.
Person specification
Education and qualifications:
Essential criteria
- DCR or BSc in Radiography (Diagnostic).
- Post graduate diploma/evidence of post graduate study.
- HCPC registration.
Desirable criteria
- Leadership qualifications.
- Other post-graduate study.
- RPS certificate.
Knowledge:
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and awareness of issues affecting NHS and network working.
- Knowledge of all modalities within Radiology.
- Human Resource issues.
- Current trends in profession.
- IR(ME)R Legislation.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to evaluate and improve service quality.
- Human resource seminars i.e. managing sickness absence, appraisal.
- Conflict resolution.
Experience:
Essential criteria
- Experience of diagnostic staff line management.
- Evidence of leadership and team building.
- Evidence of supervisory and training staff.
- Experience of appraising.
Desirable criteria
- Responsibility for imaging services.
- Experience of delivering a training programme or managing change.
- Experience in audit and continuous quality improvement.
