Job overview
Manage the provision of the Paediatric Nursing Services and provide professional nursing leadership in the Paediatric critical care services at St Mary’s Hospital, ensuring that care is individualised and of the highest quality.
To work with the Head of Children’s Nursing, Lead Nurses, Paediatric inpatient and outpatient areas, Service Manager and General Manager to implement a Paediatric nursing strategy that encompasses St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospital’s Paediatric departments.
Support the Lead Nurse and Head of Children’s Nursing, to ensure compliance to the National Service Framework for Children and Young People which incorporates Safeguarding of Children, in all areas across the Trust where children are treated.
To be a representative for the local and national PICU Networks and North Thames Paediatric Network.

EDUCATION
Essential criteria
- RSCN/RN (child)
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience
- Paediatric critical care course (ENB 415 or equivalent)
- Recognised leadership qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- MSc/MRes or working towards this qualification
- Leadership or Management qualification (or working towards this qualification)
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Proven leadership skills through experience of leading a team
- Strong commitment to improving patient services with a clear focus on achieving performance goals
- Good time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
- Sound IT skills (incl email and office packages)
Desirable criteria
- Competence in Haemafiltration
- Able to demonstrate Staff Engagement Methodologies
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 2 years at Senior Charge Nurse/Sister (Band 7) level within specialty
- Budget management experience
- Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
- Experience in managing complaints and quality assurance
Desirable criteria
- SOPs with the Critical Care
