We have an exciting and rare opportunity for an Advanced (B7) Physiotherapist team lead working in Neuro Intensive Care. We are looking for someone who is/has:
- Expert clinician in respiratory management of patients in a critical care setting
- Experienced in early rehabilitation of critically ill patients
- Enhanced leadership skills to work alongside the multi-professional team
- Solid foundation in research, personal and service development, appropriate to career stage
- Confident educator of staff, peer professionals and in external settings
You will work as part of a combined therapy services team delivering patient care across a 7-day service, including weekends and bank holidays, on a roster basis. Physiotherapy staff may be part of the acute on-call respiratory rota.
This post is part of the wider Therapy services department. You will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 300 Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff. We have strong links with local Universities and host many student placements within our department.

The Neuro Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at University Hospital Southampton is a regional unit, admitting severe neurological trauma and polytrauma, emergency and elective neuro surgical patients and patients with acute, complex neuromuscular conditions.
NICU prides itself on its rehabilitation culture, working as a collaborative multi-professional team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This post is a rare and exciting opportunity to further develop the physiotherapy service within NICU. You will be supported by a Band 8a Clinical Specialist in Critical Care, and work alongside senior therapists across the general and cardiac critical care units, and those on the neurosciences wards.
The ideal candidate will come with experience in implementing service development projects within the neurosciences ICU, to improve efficiency and maximise outcomes. They will have well established and effective leadership skills to inspire the team. We are looking for a confident, competent clinician who has expertise in both respiratory management and early rehabilitation in critical care.

For this specific role we need the following skills and/or experience:
• Experience working in the field of critical care and neurosciences with skills in respiratory management and early rehabilitation (For example: with skills in NIV assessment and treatment techniques and acute on-call experience, management of acute and unstable neurological presentations)
• Experience in delivering highly complex neurological and respiratory assessments in critical care
• A clearly expressed desire to work in UHS Therapy services dept and in this clinical speciality
As we run a 7-day therapy service, flexibility is needed to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

- Masters in Physiotherapy or equivalent experience: highly specialist skills with relevant levels of study Management qualification, or equivalent experience
- Current HCPC registration
- Significant relevant clinical experience or with the ability to demonstrate significant experience in physiotherapy practice
- Evidence of proven leadership and supervisory skills
- Previous experience within relevant clinical area
- Previous experience on-call, where relevant to clinical area
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of audit, evaluation, or research
- Evidence of implementing change in a clinical environment
