An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced Band 7 senior Occupational therapist in our community team for adults with learning disabilities.

We are looking for a professional with leadership skills and a passion to be part of the therapy service as a permanent employee. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivery of a highly specialist Occupational therapy service, demonstrating highly specialist expertise and specialist Occupational therapy skills.

This is a full-time role, offered as a permanent contract.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will independently manage a caseload of people with learning disabilities. They will maintain a high standard of clinical work and offer a person-centred approach to client assessment and intervention by using appropriate treatment procedures and following established standards. They might also be expected to take part or initiate appropriate quality measures, research or clinical studies that can improve the service and the experience of the service users. They will be expected to work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team, service users, carers, and other local services. The post holder will also supervise student placements and other relevant trainees in the team and also where appropriate supervise apprentices.

 

The post holder also is required to deliver formal and informal training to staff and carers and participate in regular team meetings. They will be flexible, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to reflect on their own practice. They will show respect and compassion for people with learning disabilities, and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) or equivalent Occupational Therapy qualification
  • HCPC Registered
  • Evidence of post-graduate training in learning disabilities
  • Clinical supervision training
  • Practice placement supervision training
Desirable criteria
  • Management / Leadership training
  • Training in Sensory Integration
  • Trained in Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS)

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience or working in an adult learning disability setting
  • Experience of working in community
  • Experience of working in a MDT
  • Experience of collaborative working with social services
  • Supervision of O.T.’s and support staff
  • Supervision of O.T. students on practice placement
  • Demonstrated involvement in service development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs
  • Supporting effective change management within teams
  • Experience of line managing staff
  • Research and audit experience

KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the national guidelines for Learning Disabilities, Long Term Conditions and relevant NICE guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of models used by OT’s working with people with learning disabilities.
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence based practice associated with people with Learning Disabilities.
  • Demonstrated application of Risk Assessment and management in clinical practice
  • Understanding and clinical application of Model of Human Occupation

  • Working knowledge and application of clinical governance
