This is an exciting new substantive consultant psychiatrist post with the Northumberland & North Tyneside Universal Crisis Team. It has been developed under the Inpatient quality transformation funds to improve urgent care services (Inpatient and Crisis), make services truly 7 days a week and develop an Early discharge model from Inpatients to homebased treatment. This post holder will have part of their weekly timetable focused on this element of the crisis team function. They would work closely with the Acute Adult Inpatient teams especially Responsible clinicians at St Georges Park (3 acute inpatient wards – 2 male adult acute wards and 1 female acute adult ward) to establish this function fully. The applicant will join an experienced and well-established pre-existing adults’ crisis service which provides crisis assessment and home treatment for patients experiencing acute mental health problems which can be managed in the community with intensive mental health support, without the need for hospital admission. The post holder will enable transition from hospital to community working closely with the inpatient ward teams and consultants and with the crisis team clinicians to support home based treatment and early discharge.

The consultant will work closely with the inpatient ward teams and consultants and with the crisis team clinicians to support home based treatment and early discharge and enable transition to the community. The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues in other specialist mental health teams and develop proactive links with the community services; particularly with a view to developing more robust pathways into appropriate follow-up care once discharged. The consultant will assess and provide medical input for patients with mental health crises taken on for home-treatment with the Northumberland and North Tyneside Crisis Team and will provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and formulation to adult patients presenting to the CRHT.
You will have your own office space and will be supported by a medical assistant and/or medical secretary. We are looking for applicants based anywhere in the UK to explore exciting new opportunities in remote and digital working.
This is a substantive and full-time post however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis.

- CCT in Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 /eligible for approval or intention to seek approval
