Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated ambitious individual to join our well integrated team to support us with our treatment services in Oral Surgery. We offer excellent clinical facilities in the department of oral surgery within the dental hospital. The post is available from July 2025 as a locum position for a fixed term of 1 year.
You will have had previous experience working within and OMFS/Oral Surgery department with an enthusiasm to communicate your own knowledge and experience to students and patients. You will have been fully registered with the GDC. You will be offered a structured induction and support with the opportunity for further educational development.
Main duties of the job
The primary aim of the 1.0 WTE Specialty Doctor locum post (1 year fixed term) is to provide support for the oral surgery department of the Trust under the direction of the consultant lead. The post provides an excellent opportunity to develop and use oral surgical skills The nature of the post requires that candidates has had suitable experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery/oral surgery at DCT level or higher. There are opportunities in appropriate cases for candidates to develop a particular area of interest.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical:
· Under appropriate supervision provide clinical oral surgery services in-hours
· Provide suitable middle grade cover in hours within the outpatient oral surgery department
· Provide assessment and treatment planning for new referrals.
Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential criteria
- BDS or equivalent.
- GDC registerable qualification.
- Will have been fully registered with the General Dental Council for at least 3 years.
Desirable criteria
- Leadership and training experience.
- Certificate in teaching or medical education
- MFDS or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 3 years post BDS qualification experience in clinical dentistry
- At least two years clinical experience in Oral Surgery and/or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Completed a Foundation Training programme and at least one year in a recognised NHS post as DCT or above.
Management and Administration Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues.
- Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities.
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to personal development
Desirable criteria
- Proven management ability.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Experience of supervising or training clinical dental trainees, students or DCPs
Research
Essential criteria
- An understanding of Clinical Governance
- Understanding of UK guidelines on the practice of dental sedation
Desirable criteria
- Successful completion of audit or research projects that have led to change.
Audit
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in audit.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of having changed practice as a result of audit.
- Evidence of having revisited the audit to assess improvement.
