Job overview
Ward 2 Women’s Newsam Centre, within the Leeds Forensic Inpatient Service, is recruiting a Charge Nurse.
As a Charge Nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring the day to day running of the Women’s ward, and the care provided, is safe, effective and of a high standard. We are looking for someone who has the passion and enthusiasm to truly make a difference to the care of women in a secure setting. We are also looking for someone who understands, and role models a multi-disciplinary and inclusive approach to care delivery, where compassionate and collective leadership is central. This is genuinely an exciting time for Forensic Services, especially within Ward 2 Women’s who are a vital part of the upcoming developments aligned with the National Women’s Secure Pathway Transformation Programme are starting to progress. This role provides you with the opportunity to help shape the future of low secure women’s services in Leeds.

Main duties of the job
The Leeds Forensic Inpatient Service consists of 3 wards at the Newsam Centre which provide care for people experiencing acute mental health issues.
As a Charge Nurse, you will be expected to work with patients, carers and the Multi- Disciplinary Team to provide care to people with mental health needs.
The successful candidate will be positive and enthusiastic in your approach, calm and confident when dealing with the needs of the service users. You will have excellent communication skills, and will show that you have the ability to form and sustain therapeutic relationships with people with mental health needs.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in mental health and be committed to involving service users in all aspects of their care. The role requires the candidate to support the care, assessment, interventions and activities for service users.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job Role/duties:
- Senior support for staff within the whole MDT.
- Regular support, guidance and clinical leadership.
- Promoting good practice
- Be a role model for the team and student nurses.
- Leading by example; effective care and communication.
- Support and facilitate change and next steps of the ward and service
- Primary and associate nursing.
- Leading a specific group of staff
- Point of escalation
- Incident Reviews
- Monthly nursing auditsManagement Supervision
- Management and completion of Rota’s
- Attend service meetings in the absence of the CTM.
- Lead and facilitate ward meetings in absence of CTM.
A flexible approach is required as this post involves working flexibly over a 24 hr / 7 day period.
We will offer you an induction and a continuing appraisal and supported by regular supervision.
Informal visits to the ward are welcomed.
