Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Cardiologist with a subspeciality interest in echocardiography, and with experience in adult congenital heart disease to provide complex echocardiography services in the Trust. The successful applicant will perform on average 2 complex echo lists per week covering a range of procedures (TOE, pharmacological and exercise stress echo and contrast echo). The appointee will be expected to contribute to TOE provision for structural intervention procedures and to provide imaging support to the complex valve MDT meetings. There are currently two valve related MDTs per week each of one hour duration with additional bi-monthly regional valve interventional structural planning meetings.
There will be a commitment for 1:12 basis for acute cardiology, with no overnight cover.
Support for complex echo and adult congenital heart disease is an essential requirement of this post.
In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.
Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical:
· Complex echocardiography (stress echo, contrast echo, TOE,)
· Imaging support to cardiothoracic MDTs
· General Acute Cardiology take (1:12 Consultant of the week) with no overnight commitment
· 1 General cardiology outpatient clinic
· 1 Adult Congenital Heart Disease clinic
Administrative:
· Review and Triage of referrals to outpatient clinics
· Review and report investigations
· Assist with prioritisation and planning of complex echo procedures
Research:
· To be agreed individually with the successful applicant
Teaching:
· Contribution to departmental teaching of postgraduate doctors in training, undergraduate medical students and specialist nurses
· Formal teaching roles to be agreed with successful applicant depending upon experience
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.

Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential criteria
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC Registration
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC).
- MRCP or equivalent
- Subspecialty Training in advanced echocardiography
Desirable criteria
- Higher Degree.
- Subspecialty training in Adult Congenital Heart Disease
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality
- Ability to manage General Cardiology inpatients and outpatients.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre
Management and Administration Experience
Essential criteria
- Flexible approach to service delivery and committed approach to development
- Able to communicate well with patients and colleagues
