Lead Physiotherapist for Complex Medicine

Department: Inpatient Therapies 

Band 7 £47,810 - £54,710 per annum pro rata

Part-time 30 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

If you are an experienced Physiotherapist with a passion for providing an exceptional service for patients within the speciality of complex medicine and wanting to take the next step in your career to lead a team, then this role is for you. 

It is an exciting time to join this team and shape the service for the future as the brand-new Oak wards are due for completion early 2026.

You will jointly lead the Complex Medicine Therapy team with the lead Occupational Therapist. You will need to demonstrate a robust ability to deal with competing priorities, provide clinical leadership and deliver a comprehensive therapeutic service. You will provide specialist Physiotherapy interventions and lead on the service development with delivery of holistic care and discharge planning, whilst working within the wider multi-disciplinary team.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate organisation, strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to teach and supervise others. You will be supported through regular supervision and the Trust appraisal process, which will help you to fulfil objectives and opportunities related to the post.

  • To be responsible for managing a highly specialist clinical caseload older people with frailty for MKUH, patients will be assessed & treated in a variety of different settings including outpatients or inpatients/community as required by the area of clinical specialty.
  • To represent the Physiotherapy profession & ensure that the teaching is delivered to a high standard.
  • Involved in data collection & audit to enable service development and quality.
  • Support in teaching, learning & development within complex medicine & wider therapies services, including medical students.
  • To work in collaboration with Lead Therapists & Therapy Service Leads to jointly provide clinical and managerial leadership to the Inpatient Complex Medicine team, employed by MKUH, in the delivery of a high quality service for its patients.
  • To have knowledge of emerging clinical developments, provide advice to inform service development in the speciality in support of the appropriate Therapy Lead.
  • To demonstrate & role model specialist clinical assessment & treatment skills for an agreed caseload of patients.
  • To continually review staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service & informing the Therapy Lead of any problems that may arise.
  • To act as a source of expertise in specialist area for patients, carers, medical staff and other health professionals, GPs and colleagues.
  • You will participate in the respiratory on-call rota (including weekends and bank holidays as required).

At MKUH we are committed to career development through both a leadership and advanced clinical practice route. You will get the opportunity to attend out MSc Frailty module that we have developed with Northampton University. You will also benefit from support from our own dedicated Therapy Practice Development team. 

Leadership and management: 

  • To provide clinical and managerial leadership to the clinical team in area of clinical speciality by working collaboratively with other Lead Therapists and the Therapy Service Lead.

Clinical practice: 

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management by supporting more junior staff to do likewise.

Professional duties: 

  • To maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities, demonstrating awareness of new trends and developments and their incorporation into practice as necessary.

Governance: 

  • To demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and their application to work situation.
