Cellular Pathology invites applications for the post of Biomedical Scientist to join their friendly team. An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual to contribute to a rapidly developing service. 

The department supports ROSE clinics, a Mohs service & there is scanning equipment to support the digital agenda. The post-holder will be encouraged to participate in this project as we progress to a fully digitised pathology service. 

The department operates 6am-7pm Mon-Fri & Sat 7am-5pm. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the rotational Bank Holiday service-approx. 1 per annum, currently not Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day or Good Friday, & the ‘on-call’ rota. 

These posts also present excellent opportunities for personal development and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is also actively supported. The laboratory is IBMS-approved for the training and education of undergraduate and STP students and is UKAS accredited.

The Main responsibilities and skills required of the advertised roles will include:

- Undertake processing of pathology specimens for diagnostic and monitoring purposes.
- Provide accurate, timely, and appropriate analytical data/results.
- Deliver a high-quality service that meets the needs of the patients and service users.
- To supervise training and support staff as directed and required 
- Attention to detail, working under pressure, teamwork and well-developed interpersonal skills.
- You will have proven experience of a commitment to engaging and motivating colleagues within their teams. 
- You will have a focus on supporting others to cope with and respond successfully to work challenges and create an inclusive workplace culture where those they lead and work with are able to thrive.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Be educated to degree level with an IBMS accredited degree or be registered as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council
  • Previous experience of working in a Cellular Pathology department.
  • Experience of employment in an establishment delivering high standards of quality output.
  • Have knowledge and experience of using hospital IT systems.

  • Previous experience across multiple areas of Cellular Pathology (ie frozen sections, specials, cytology, etc).
  • Have evidence of laboratory training courses and competence.
