Job overview
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic and forward-thinking dispensary team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
We are a busy Pharmacy department, delivering a wide range of complex and essential services. These include:
- Dispensary operations
- Ward-based and clinical pharmacy services
- Logistics, stores, and procurement
- Clinical trials
- Aseptic preparation
- Medicines information
We are proud to utilise cutting-edge technology, including an automated robotic dispensing and stock supply system, to support our high standards of patient care.
As a valued member of our team, you will:
- Carry out a full range of technical pharmaceutical duties within the dispensary
- Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused service
- Support our seven-day service model, including participation in weekend shifts, late weekday duties, and bank holiday rotas on a rotational basis

Main duties of the job
Technicians interested in this position are required to bring with them motivation and a determination to succeed in a challenging environment, along with the ability to remain calm under pressure and a commitment to future developments in pharmacy services.
This role requires a GPhC registered technician who can demonstrate good written and oral communication skills, the ability to use own initiative and work as part of the dispensary and wider pharmacy team.
It is desirable for applicants to hold an approved accredited checking technician qualification, if a candidate has not yet obtained this they will be expected to enroll and complete a recognised qualification.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician.
- To undertake a full range of technical pharmaceutical activities within the dispensary under the direct supervision of the Dispensary Manager or Pharmacist.
- Support ward based services including the preparation and dispensing of medicines for discharge.
Person specification
KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy patient services, supported by practical experience gained through training
- Knowledge and understanding of the Law and Ethics relating to the dispensing of medicines
- Evidence of professional CPD
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of Trust policies and procedures relating to dispensary services
- Knowledge of current COSHH and Health and Safety Legislation
SKILLS

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
