Trust Doctor (ST3+) in Cardiology Specialising Cardiomyopathy

This post provides out-of-programme training in inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) for a candidate with suitable experience in clinical Cardiology. We expect post holders to undertake the same educational obligations as their colleagues. 
There will be opportunity to work in clinic, inpatients, imaging, exercise physiology, genetics as well as research and teaching.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Cardiomyopathies: new and follow-up patients
 Specialist clinic evaluating and investigating families with sudden arrhythmic death.

Routine care of patients admitted under the care of the ICC team and evaluation of those referred for an opinion from the ICC team

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Successful completion of MRCP or equivalent
  • Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate medical research degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working in MDTs
  • Previous experience of working as ST1/2 or equivalent
  • Previous cardiology experience
Desirable criteria
  • Managing young patients with heart disease
  • Genetic counselling
  • Managing cases and families with inherited cardiomyopathy
  • Advanced cardiac imaging
  • Interpretation of genetic test results

Knowledge&Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of the spectrum of cardiological disease
  • Managing inpatients with acute cardiac disease
  • Managing symptoms and mortality risks in patients with progressive chronic cardiac disease
  • Teaching and education
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses & other agencies
  • Enthusiasm & ability to work under pressure
  • Good organisational skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Managing implantable cardiac devices
  • Research methodology and audit

  • Ability to work in a team
  • Maintain and safeguard patients through CPD and appraisal
  • Ability to supervise junior colleagues in a professional manner
