A full-time Enhanced practice sonographer vacancy has opened to join our ultrasound services across West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust.
  
This role will be cross-site, covering St Albans City Hospital & Hemel Hempstead Hospital & Watford General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing towards the efficient service delivery of ultrasound services.

The duties and responsibilities of the post holder include:

  • To contribute to the operational duties of the ultrasound departments services across West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals Trust. Including maternity, general, inpatients and acute referrals. 
  • To be an effective member of the Ultrasound team, promoting the trust values through our workforce. 
  • Provide a high standard of Sonographer/ultrasound services to radiologists and patients. 
  • Complete ultrasound examinations to a high standard. 
  • Supervision of junior staff, international recruits and students through induction and training programmes. 

This post is ideal for strong communicators who enjoy working part of a close-knit team.

Independently undertake, interpret and analyse ultrasound scan findings.

Independently produce a report identifying normality, interpreting variants and common pathologies.

Has a role in supporting training and development of junior staff.

To be independently and autonomously performing a wide range of examinations including complex cases.

Provide expertise, supervision, peer review and guidance to less experienced colleagues.

5% of reports to be peer reviewed using BMUS peer review tool. Learning points from peer review to inform developmental needs.

Education and qualifications:

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • DMU or PgD in Ultrasound or PgC/PgD in: • a chosen clinical speciality. • advanced practice skills of reporting. • advanced communication. • extended pathophysiology
  • HCPC, NMC or RCT registration.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • MSc, or working towards one.

Knowledge:

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Complex knowledge of pathologies.
  • Detailed knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Actively participates in CPD relevant to professional needs.

Experience:

  • Proficient NHS ultrasound experience in Obstetrics, gynaecology or general medical ultrasound.
  • Previously worked at Practitioner Sonographer level.

  • Sub-specialism skills and competencies.
