Fixed Term Professional Head of Radiotherapy B8C

Due to the current Head of service taking a seconded position the Oncology division are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the team as Professional Head of Radiotherapy on a fixed term (18 months) contract.  This post is less than full time –33 hours per week (0.89 WTE)  

The successful candidate will be required to have excellent communication and team working skills to drive engagement across multiple teams and deliver good performance within services. They will provide the professional leadership to the Therapeutic Radiography staff within the Trust.

The role will also involve engagement with key external stakeholders, including outreach partners, Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, commissioners and regulators.  A key role will be supporting the integration and alignment of Radiotherapy clinical pathways across the Oncology services within the ICS. 

The main Radiotherapy site on the Royal Surrey Hospital site, proudly hosts one of the few in the UK Adaptive Varian ETHOS™ machines, allowing real time adaptive radiotherapy.  Four Varian Truebeam® (one STX with ExacTrac and four with 6 degrees of freedom couch) completes the fleet. The satellite unit at our outreach partner site at Surrey and Sussex Hospital, Redhill, host two Varian Truebeam®.  The satellite is about to embark on an exciting linac replacement programme, where a second Adaptive Varian ETHOS™  will be installed, alongside a Halcyon machine.

The post holder will be responsible for the effective provision of radiotherapy services to maintain the highest professional and technical standards of radiotherapy and patient care.  The post holder will hold the requisite skills and qualifications to provide leadership and expert professional input.

Working with the Lead Clinician for Radiotherapy and Associate Director for Oncology the post holder will develop services in line with changes in technology, professional recommendations, and government requirements, whilst meeting the Trust’s Cancer strategy and priorities.

As a member of the Oncology Division the post holder will actively participate in the SBU management meetings to advise and constructively inform the Associate Director for Oncology and Lead Clinician on the treatment service organisation, service developments of all aspects of the service and human resource management in order to provide a patient-centered, effective and coordinated service. 

The role will also involve engagement with key external stakeholders, including outreach partners, Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance, commissioners and regulators.  A key role will be supporting the integration and alignment of Radiotherapy clinical pathways across the Oncology services within the ICS.
